The Charming Rain

Let's drop a match into a room full of gas cans & run,
We're just two fiery kids having fun,
But when the flames cauterise grief to the families' lives,
We'll soon know what we've done.
The fumes gave us chance, chance to get away,
To turn and run from the lives we took in jest that day.
And I've never felt so alive than when that match was in my hand.
"What do you mean there's someone in there? Please God, I don't understand"
Now we're just phantoms, we're just ghosts
Invisible to the ones we love the most,
& the guilt is crushing me.
The sound of the sirens ring,
I'm so numb I can't feel a thing.
Now the families stand clad in black,
Coffins manned to the tone of the funeral hymns.
The fumes gave us chance, gave us chance to get away,
& I wish I'd never turned to run, I wish I'd stayed.
I know that I deserve to break under the weight of the blame,
Now every single time I smell the smoke, I pray for rain.
Now we're just phantoms, we're just ghosts
Invisible to the ones we love the most
& the guilt is crushing me.
When I close my eyes, I feel them
Time froze, their cries still pierce the night air.
When I close my eyes, I feel them there.
Time froze, their cries still pierce the night air.
Now we're just phantoms, we're just ghosts
Invisible to the ones we love the most.
& the guilt is crushing me.

There's no worse a sound
Than the cry from a child
Losing his way for the very first time
Whilst we all complain in a comfortable slumber
Abusing the comforts we'll soon outgrow
While we all worry about what we've not over what we've got
There are people searching for a place to call a home
Not just a house for show.
You can hide behind your wealth's worth
You can't own the earth.
While you're making fake friends, sugarcoating dead ends
To close the void between.
Left to forage in a world that's filled with plenty
Despite their efforts, children's hands are still left empty
You're so successful, helping just yourself shouldn't make you proud
A pig in a suit is still a pig, so clean up your act, you're losing it.
We wash in cleaner water
Than some can ever drink
And isn't that perspective enough to make you think?
While we all worry about what we've not over what we've got
There are people searching for a place to call a home
Not just a house for show.
You can hide behind your wealth's worth
You can't own the earth.
While you're making fake friends, sugarcoating dead ends
To close the void between.
There's a fine line between confidence and arrogance
A sense of entitlement in misguided men, it's dividing them.
We wash in cleaner water than some can ever drink
And isn't that perspective enough to make you think?
While we all worry about what we've not over what we've got
There are people searching for a place to call a home
Not just a house for show.
You can hide behind your wealth's worth
You can't own the earth.
While you're making fake friends, sugarcoating dead ends
To close the void between.
